The Peter D. Fugelso, M.D., Urology Center
As a Center of Excellence, the Urology Service offers proven expertise and superb results. An experienced, patient focused team uses the best of recent medical technology, including state-of-the-art treatment modalities, to eliminate pain and treat disorders.
Among the Center's outstanding programs is a Kidney Stone Service, the busiest in the western United States, treating over 900 cases per year. More than 99% of patients are treated on an outpatient basis. Some 95% of those treated for kidney stones will not have a recurrence within three months of treatment; many have no recurrence at all. National retreatment rates for lithotripsy run as high as 35%.
The Center has introduced a high dose radiation (HDR) implant program as
a treatment option for patients with prostate cancer. In the near future,
Good Samaritan Hospital will add a transurethral microwave thermography
program, as an adjunct treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
