How is a Stroke Diagnosed?
Diagnosis of a stroke relies on the patient’s medical history and
certain tests. These may include:
- Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) scan to show the flow of blood through
the blood vessels
- Carotid arteriography to show specific arteries
- Other laboratory tests may also be done to check the patient's overall
health and whether the blood clots too easily
- If evidence shows that the stroke is caused by a clot that formed in the
heart, the doctor may order a chest X-ray, ECG or EKG, echocardiograph
or other heart imaging test
